This box is strong and nice looking. One feature I liked especially are the combination dials. They are white numbering on a black ring so the white numbers stand out well against the black background. A problem with some of these combination dials. There is a soft rubbery bumper pad on the back to protect paint on doors and the shackle is also coated with a soft plastic or rubbery sleeve. The box compartment for the keys is smaller than a lot of these boxes so you may not get as many keys in it. But if you are just putting a couple of house keys, or so, inside, it should be fine. (You may get a few more in if the keys are not too thick.)There are two combinations required. The combination to open the key door is different from the combination to unlock the shackle to hang it on something. You are able to choose either one of these two, and the unit sets the other one for you. So you can set the key door combination to a number you will remember easily but that leaves a different number for the shackle which is determined by what you set for the door. So that will probably be a rote memory issue for you.Therein lies the rub.Be sure to read the directions very, very carefully and be sure not to lock it onto to anything or put any keys inside until you fully understand how the combinations are set.I can't say this more urgently, it isn't for the mentally challenged, it takes some figuring out. (You'll need to plan to sit down for a little while and not rush into it and wonder what the combination turned out to be.)If you are in your elderly configuration, maybe this isn't the lockbox for you. But if your reasoning abilities are good, this is a fine lock and is less bulky than more traditional lockboxes. The problem is the confusion that arises in setting the two combinations. If you want to set the door combination to a number you remember you have set it in conjunction with the shackle combination. For example, the door combination will be 3 digits higher than the shackle combination. If the door combination is to be 555 the shackle is 222. You set the shackle combination first, (if I understand it.) so you write down the door combination and subtract 3 when setting the shackle.Complicated to write about, you'll get it when you get the lock and instructions which has a little table to help.To further complicate the set up is that in order to set the combinations, you have to turn a "setting screw" on the side of the unit to free the lock to set combinations. But if you forget to return the "setting screw" back to its original position, and try scrambling the combination, you are really resetting the combination to the scrambled number, until some day you remember to turn the "setting screw" to complete the process. So, while your are setting and figuring out the setting process, keep a pad of paper next you and write every combination you dial so if you forget to return the "setting screw" back to normal, you will have a list of possible settings on the pad that may open the lock and let you start again. Can't tell you how careful to be until it is set up. Don't put your keys inside or lock to a door until you have all this working properly. Then write down your combinations somewhere. (I put the shackle combination inside the key storage compartment figuring I may remember the combination to the box, but would probably forget the shackle combination. The reason for the two combinations, is actually not a bad idea. You can give the key compartment combination to some one and they can get the keys out of the box, but they cannot remove and misplace the lockbox without knowing the shackle combination also.Clear as mud! It is important that you read instructions and play with it for awhile to be sure you get it.I didn't give 5 stars because of the complications with setting the combinations in the beginning. You should only have this issue once unless you want a new combination.Good box, however.SteveI live in a city so when I travel and rent out my room or have friends visit I need a secure lockbox for my keys to be left in outside. This suits my needs just fine. It isn't the beefiest, toughest lock but for occasional use it's easy to set and locks to a railing or window grate with ease. Setting your own combo is quick and with a little math you can use that combo to set the hook lock too. Fits a set of 3 keys on a ring inside the locking compartment with room to spare. Weatherproof and so far tamper proof. I feel safe leaving my keys locked up in here and all of my guests have had no problem accessing the keys from here and returning them here afterwards.I recently needed to purchase three lock boxes, and relied strongly on the reviews to make my selection. I am very happy to have chosen this one.Using the instructions provided, I found it very easy to determine the shackle combination from which the compartment door combination is automatically set. I started by writing my desired door combo on the instruction sheet beneath the decoder chart, which then made it easy to derive the shackle combination. Then I followed the instructions to set the shackle combo, et voila! the door combo was automatically set for me! It took about three minutes. The key compartment is a cylinder sized for about five keys. You will need to look elsewhere for one that can hold a key card. The compartment has a little post in it that begs to act as an anchor for a short keychain to encourage the user to return the key to the compartment. However, the gap between the post and the wall does not allow you to use beaded chain for this purpose, although we rigged a way to make it work anyway by using a twist tie and a small split ring to attach the beaded chain. The manufacturer does not suggest using the post for this purpose, so I would call it a bonus feature outside of their specs.I do not yet have any feedback on durability over time, but can say that the fit and finish appear to be high quality. I will be interested to see how it handles freezing rain, etc. over time. The shackle is protected with vinyl, and the reverse has a little plastic pad to prevent it from marring your door. I can't tell whether moisture will be able to invade the lock mechanism or key compartment. In closing, I recommend that you try this lockbox so long as you don't need one with a large compartment. If you look at the photo you can gauge its size relative to the size of a typical key.I wanted a solid dependable lock box in the (unlikely) event I lock myself out of my condo. I had planned to purchase a "Master" (brand) since the Master Lock name is familiar also a neighbor has a Master lock box and it impresed me. Some of the reviews led me to shop around, however. I saw this one. What was most impresive was that the key compartment will adequately hold my three door keys. What I was a bit apprensive about was the method that was required to set the combination numbers. I was relieved when I read the instructions and discovered that it was simple to do. But... be sure to read the instructions very carefully! I normally simply bypass any instructions and proceed with the setup. I am so glad that several reviews warned me. That prompted me to delay the installation until I was certain of what I need to do. I'm fine now. Here's the good part... if I ever manage to lock myself out, I will be relieved of the time and expense of calling a locksmith to get in. A neighbor locked herself out last week... a costly mistake... $195. I surely did not want that to occur with me. The numbers are easy to read. I like that. The construction of the lock box and shackle is such that if anyone did try to break it open, it would be noisy and time-consuming. Something most burglars do not want to do. Are 10,000 numbers security enough? How likely are you to choose the winning four-digit lottery number? My only remaining decision is whether to put it on the door know or on a wrought iron railing. We used this lock for a short term solution. After purchasing a new home, we needed a place to keep keys on site while multiple cleaners, contractors and installations staff accessed the house without us needing to be onsite. This was a great solution.Only criticism is that it did not come with any instructions, so I had to spend some time on google and YouTube figuring out how to set the combinations. Some printed instructions or a QR code to online ones would have been nice. Gracias.First of all, the seller did not provide any instructions. I had to search for instructions online. It's fairly important you get the instructions because the lock combinations work like a secret decoder ring. It's not exactly explained in the description well. We had hoped we could pick out an easy to remember four letter combo. But you don't get to spell any four letter word you want. You get a limited number of letters to choose from. Then you only get to choose one combination for the lock shackle and it automatically sets the combination for the side door. So if you choose an easy to remember combination for the lock, you then need to look up a special chart to figure out the setting for the side door. Either way, one of the combinations will not be easy to remember because it is automatically set for you.Disappointed with this purchase.
